Twister bobbins were used to add twist and strength to yarn by combining two or more threads onto spools.  The bobbins come in a variety of sizes this being one of the smallest.  The worsted yarns starts on much larger bobbins and progresses down to this small 4.5" - 5" bobbin.  The steel cap reduces the snagging of yarn and the gently curved areas under the caps at both ends are designed to reduce stress on the yarn as it is drawn off the bobbin.

These bobbins were well used with a rich patina and show scoring on the bobbin barrels caused by knives cutting off the leftover yarn.....a sign of an authentic vintage bobbin!
