FUN 4" tall vintage bobbins from northeastern mills.  Another novel and handy spot for parking your scissors at your side while stitching. 
The center column is wood and the top and bottom are some kind of early plastic.  Scratches on the wood are from slicing off the leftover thread to rewind with more to put back on the weaving loom. 

A clever way to organize your ribbons and lace and display in your sewing room and studio.  The bobbin would make a wonderful "Make-Do" base for a unique pin cushion next to another holding your scissors.  Start thinking how you can use these antique bobbins at your home!
